No. But I do volunteer at the animal shelter on weekends.

Really? I'm actually thinking of getting a pet from a shelter sometime this month, if everything goes well!

I'm trying to decide between a snake and a cat!

Yes! A lot of the smaller ones are very cute.

The start-up costs are a bit steep compared to other animals, but they are low maintenance animals from what I've heard.

Makes sense. Thankfully, the ones in the shelter are non-poisonous, but their numbers there are limited.

Oh, that's true...

In that case maybe I should pick a cat? There's a variety to pick from, and I'm sure the shelter would be eager to adopt them out.

At this point I'm trying to decide if I should get one or two, and if I should perhaps pick an older cat instead of a kitten? I'm torn, I admit.

Well, it depends on how big your home is for the cats, but how tolerable your family or neighbor can endure from them.

I live in a one-bedroom apartment. It's not the biggest, but I think there'd be space for a small animal.

And I'm living alone, so I don't have to worry about upsetting anyone, I think.

I see. I would recommend a kitten so they may able to explore around with their current size.

Oh, a kitten sounds perfect... I hope I can find a black one, too. In Japan, they're considered good luck, but I've heard things are different here in America.
