For fun. [Ten remarks dryly and a heavy sigh. He's going to let the Professor present the case as much as possible]
You said that your Pokemon are your friends, correct? If that's true - do your Pokemon willingly take part in these activities or are they allowed to not?
[There's a firm head nod; at least there's that. At least their free will remains. And that what matters because they're already put in those Pokeballs. Which Ten is wondering how Time Lord technology exists in another universe.
But at least it's not slavery, at least the creatures aren't being made to fight if they don't want too and for that's he's grateful that this world isn't messed up that badly. However, Ten doesn't doubt that there aren't humans that do force these creatures fight but those are bad people, to begin with.
[In his honesty, there were several people who want to use them as tools than partners, but he rather not open that topic up until the Doctor understands more about his new Pokemon.]
Well, I hope you and your Charmander will be great partners in the near future.

[A Charmander peeks onto the camera in the corner, really close up]
The reason I was calling - I was wondering if you could tell me more about your world.
Particularly on why are these creatures used to fight? And if that's against thar will or not.
[Just pretend the Doctor didn't see Sycamore's new Pokemon until I get his randomize team]
[He gasps as he sees the Doctor's Fire-type.]
I guess you were able to get your own Pokemon as well.
Well, they mainly battle for supremacy or for fun to the trainers and Pokemon. However, it depends on the strength of their bonds of each other.

The Pokemon will take part if they feel that I'm in danger. Take for Garchomp for instance, she sometimes acts like my bodyguard all of the time.
Though if their Pokemon don't feel like battling, I often let them take the backlines to make sure they aren't hurt from other battles.

Gives the Professor a big smile]
I'm glad you and your Pokemon are friends.
[And you know they're not weapons]
